Once upon a bog, I was sittin’ on a log And then I met a dog, he wasn’t pretty He said his name was Ted, but I called him “Dave” instead But I listened when he said “The drink’s on me.” Oooh wee, ooh wee, ooh wee, sarsaparilla! Hillbillies have no creed, just a truck for haulin’ feed And doesn’t really need a windshield I used to live alone, but the dog wrote me a poem My truck is his new home and he rides shotgun Oooh wee, ooh wee, ooh wee, sarsaparilla!

beat it 04:13
They told him don’t you ever come around here Don’t wanna see your face, you better disappear There’s fire in their eyes and their words are very clear So beat it, just beat it You better run, you better do what you can Don’t wanna see no blood, don’t be a macho man You wanna be tough, better do what you can So beat it, but you wanna be bad Just beat it, beat it, beat it, beat it No one wants to be defeated Showin’ how funky strong is your fight It doesn’t matter who’s wrong or right Just beat it, beat it, just beat it, beat it They’re out to get you, better leave while you can Don’t wanna be a boy, you wanna be a man You wanna stay alive, better do what you can So beat it, just beat it You have to show them that you’re really not scared You’re playin’ with your life, this ain’t no truth or dare They’ll kick you, they’ll beat you, Then tell you it’s fair So beat it, but you wanna be bad Just beat it, beat it, beat it, beat it No one wants to be defeated Showin’ how funky strong is your fight It doesn’t matter who’s wrong or right Just beat it, beat it, just beat it, beat it (Additional lyrics by Brett Rawalt) I’ve been sweatin’ all day, while I’m balin’ me some hay I’m acting in a play, but my acting is ok Little sweet pea, singin’ fiddle-ee-dee And a forty plus three equals lemonade tea My mother-in-law makes a killer cole slaw Stickin’ to my craw while I’m singin’ kum-ba-ya This little light is itchin’ for a fight And her diaper isn’t tight but she’s learnin’ how to bite Oh Lord, I am so weary I think I might just sleep a century Oh Lord, I am so lonely Could you maybe try to find a friend for me? Oh Lord, I cannot hear you Could you maybe answer just a prayer or two? Oh Lord, I’ve been so lied to Could you please just help me to see the truth? Could you help me to find the truth? Could you help me to see the truth? Oh, so much rain Oh Lord, in such pain See the pit I’ve dug Lord I need your hand of love Your hand of love Oh Lord, I need your healing Please don’t let your hand of love depart from me

You will destroy the world if you step on it The park rangers are furious, bees in their bonnets When you are in Seward, Alaska, you have to see the Exit Glacier A long winding road will take you to a monstrous parking lot There’s some nice big bathrooms and an information center Where a plaque will loudly declare that the project cost millions So I left and started down the trail It was paved and ten feet wide! It was paved and ten feet wide! And then I read a sign that said: “Please don’t leave the pavement. Please respect the environment. We must protect the fragile seedlings The fragile seedlings Oh God, the seedlings!” Oh, you will destroy the world if you step on it Don’t go tromping around, just forget about it! You will destroy the world if you step on it Mother Nature is furious, bees in her bonnet

crap 02:04
Breaking up will make you feel like crap It’ll wake you up, feels like you just got slapped It’s probably for the best, but that doesn’t seem to help There’s more fish in the ocean, but for now I’ll just eat kelp Ohhh... Breaking up will make you feel like crap I’m waking up, just wanna take a nap It can be depressing, make you feel like nothing’s good It can make you feel worser than anything else could Cuz whether you’re the dumper or you are the dumpee Rejection doesn’t feel so good for either party Ohhh…

90 days 01:06
90 days, you can see it on my face 90 days is all that remains Between myself and medical insurance Doctor visits a regular occurrence Me and Dr. Huxtable Will whittle down my deductible And like an overweight lover I should never be uncovered And everywhere I’ll always wear clean underwear And I’ll keep my job until Obamacare

I bow to my partner, circle to the left You’re so pretty in polka dots, I always liked that dress Yeah, yeah You do-si-do right out of here in chains I bow to my partner, this time circle right Everybody is watching you, your face is shining so bright Yeah, yeah You do-si-do right out of here in chains Now the dancers take a break For 10 to 25 years He kissed her on the cheek And sang to his love “My dear, my dear! Our hearts will dance together all the while.”

Yeah! Community is what I need Community, yeah Duh-doy, duh-doy, duh-doy, duh-doy

Rising up, back on the street Did my time, took my chances Went the distance, now I’m back on my feet Just a man and his will to survive So many times it happens too fast You change your passion for glory Don’t lose your grip on the dreams of the past You must fight just to keep them alive It’s the eye of the tiger, it’s the thrill of the fight Rising up to the challenge of our rival And the last known survivor Stalks his prey in the night And he’s watching us all with the eye of the tiger Rising up, straight to the top Had the guts, got the glory Went the distance, now I’m not going to stop Just a man and his will to survive Face to face, out in the heat Hanging tough, staying hungry They stack the odds ’til we take to the street For the kill with the skill to survive It’s the ‘aye’ of the tiger Rising up to the challenge of our rival And the last known survivor Stalks his prey in the night And he’s watching us all with the eye of the tiger The eye of the tiger. (Oi! Oi! Oi! Oi! Aye.)

I saw a gent the other day, he said, “I’m getting old.” I said, “I’ll give you older, pal, but never give you old.” He said, “The world is growing cold.” I said, “Look around, you’ll find A wealth of warmth and sunshine. Cold is in your mind.” “My eyes,” he said, “are growing dim,I find it hard to see.” “The light’s still shining in,” I said. “Recall the memory.” “I find it hard to walk,” she said. “My knees and hips are sore.” I said to her, “Keep walking, ma’am, don’t ever close that door.” “My eyes,” she said, “are growing dim, I find it hard to see.” “The light’s still shining in,” I said. “Recall the memory.” You have but one short life to live when youth has passed you by, You mustn’t let your mind grow old, always strive to try. If you think you’re old, my friend, then old it is you’ll be. Perhaps I’ll give you older, but old? Don’t ever be. Your eyes I say are open wide. All those many years of your life. You’ve given of and you’ve taken back. May you never waste or lose track. Your eyes I say are open wide!

this song is sad maybe the saddest song i've ever had you might think, "it's not that bad" but the evidence is ironclad sadder than a shuttle full of puppies exploding into space sadder than a thousand pimples scattered all across your pretty face what could be so sad? i'll tell you what's so sad how many times have you missed an opportunity to say "i love you" to someone that you loved before they went away? did you take it for granted, thinking that "today" is just another day? well, that's why i say it's sad

I’ve been alone, out on my own Exchanging truth for a lie Pleasure for pride, hell on my side Say what you please This brought me to my knees Jesus, you cried for me when I could weep no more You died for me when I was dead in sin You felt for me when I was numb within You searched for me and brought me home again Why do you love me when I treat you so wrong? I give you heartache and you give me a song I leave you silence, cold and empty stares But still I know you care Wherever I run, you’re there Jesus, you cried for me when I could weep no more You died for me when I was dead in sin You felt for me when I was numb inside You searched for me and brought me home again Lord, you cried for me when I could weep no more You died for me when I was dead in sin And oh, you felt for me when I was numb within And oh, you searched for me and brought me home again

about

This project was a fun little departure from my usual musical direction. Two Swamps Back was a musical collaboration with a friend who lived down the street. Kalia had the right attitude (“Sure. Whatever.”), but it turned out that she also is a very talented singer and even plays a mean ukelele. We had fun mixing extremely homemade folk, blues and tolerable amounts of country into a catchy and usually harmonious casserole.
