It seemed like such a good idea at the time. My novel — a twisty mash-up of several different genres — was off to the printer, and I had a two-week break over the holidays to kill. Seemed like plenty of time to construct the blanket fort sound booth in my living room and record the whole thing.

Ten months later, I am just happy it is done. A week before completion, I discovered missing files and scrambled passages. Some files were corrupt, and so were the backups. I thought all was lost.

But calamity abated. A resurrection commenced, featuring a heroic rescue more thrilling than the novel itself. And the audiobook indeed survived! Despite newly discovered errors and excessive breathiness, it passes the standard I have always set for myself in my recorded projects: "Good enough."
