she's a tropical storm today she's a million miles away but the crusty old guys say a storm is coming and i feel her anger when she's changed her course again now she's a category ten and everyone's running the land of warmth and sun lies in the path of one whose devastation will for decades linger it's like she is a ghost she's haunting the gulf coast where the one i love the most is her prisoner i'm serious, you better duck and cover she's a furious, pissed-off and angry mother i share the blame of what was lost when you were swept away our natural disaster cost much more than we could pay

thompson ave 01:02
well the sun is so warm through my windows in the morning and the rent is cheap, the dogs don't bark and the people are so friendly to everybody but we still lock our doors welcome to mountain view
9.
this song is sad maybe the saddest song i've ever had you might think, "it's not that bad" but the evidence is ironclad sadder than a shuttle full of puppies exploding into space sadder than a thousand pimples scattered all across your pretty face what could be so sad? i'll tell you what's so sad how many times have you missed an opportunity to say "i love you" to someone that you loved before they went away? did you take it for granted, thinking that "today" is just another day? well, that's why i say it's sad
10.
stop the war 04:09
when she was younger i remember her joyous laughter young father and mother were still learning just how much we loved her before we broke all our hearts broke our family apart it's never right to hate until you begin to litigate the bitterness just escalates let's stop the war, how can we remember who all this fighting's for? let's forgive each other before we do more damage to her before we break her heart her tender heart the deepest wound she received was never deserved and never grieved and greater than we ever believed when will her pain ever be allowed to leave? let's stop the war, why can't we remember who all this fighting's for? let's forgive each other and ourselves for the sake of our daughter before we break her heart her perfect, tender heart
11.
super hippy 00:49
that's right i'm the super hippy tie dye moderately trippy and though my smell might linger my two most powerful fingers will change the world
12.
declaration 05:13

about

this album is kind of a pot luck. there's a lot of really personal stuff here (i almost called the album "brett's musical therapy sessions"), interspersed with lighter fare and downright silliness just to balance it all out.

while most album projects in the past have been group efforts, there's no way to escape that this is a completely solo venture. and instead of going the usual route – trying to sound as "legit" as possible – i decided instead to completely embrace its illegitimacy. i shunned anything resembling a studio and did everything at home. it is recorded almost entirely via my imac’s built-in microphone, using garageband (which comes free with all macs) for everything. has anybody ever done an actual album that way? on purpose? probably not.

but i like how it turned out. if you really like indie rock, this is perhaps the most legitimately "indie" album you're likely ever to hear.

credits

released March 19, 2011

pretty much everything was done by brett rawalt with these three exceptions: trumpet part on “madison” by steven woodrow bergstrom; piano samples on “i don’t play piano” mostly by shaina fisher; and guitar excellence on “shuttle full of puppies” by paul sarafin. (the solo is repeated by itself for the bonus track, as noted by the title.) ALSO included with album downloads is the album artwork booklet.
